This case study is for a manufacturing business in Manchester, they needed a solution to a problem they’d encountered when running tests for CE certification of a new product they wanted to add to their excising range.
The Challenge
Their fluid was more like a paste meaning it couldn’t be passed through a conventional heat exchanger and the pumps were getting hot when running the test because of the increased viscosity so a pressure drop of any kind was not acceptable.
The Solution
Rapid Chillers worked with a Northern Manufacturer to design and build a tube and tube heat exchanger, this was 3 meters in length and allowed the project fluid to pass directly through the 3 inch inner tube while the outer jacket was cooled using a 30kW air cooled Chiller running at a low temperature to ensure the fluid was correctly cooled. Glycol was used to prevent the evaporator of the chiller from freezing.
The Outcome
The test went really well, the customer also took the chance to add viscosity testing to their project to see how the lower temperatures would affect the thickness of their new product.
